Widgawa welcomes all peaceful nature respecting individuals and groups
as day visitors and staying guests at the lodge, cottages or camping.
We do accommodate fishing, as local fish stocks are at an all time high in the West River and local lakes.
Widgawa's focus is the preservation of the lands natural features & the towering old growth forests of white pine, as a wildlife sanctuary on the West River to Charlton Lake; and the finely balanced development of an eco resort that offers the experience of unspoiled nature among clear water lakes,
snow white quartzite hills, habituated only by wolf and moose, bobcat and lynx, under skies of eagle, breathtaking sunset and the awesome Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights);to witness if you are here and lucky!
A Land of Visions and Dreams, our neighbours, the WhiteFish River First Nation aptly name Birch Island and area. Other interesting and provocative First People names for local places include: Dreamers Rock, Heaven's Gate and Manitoulin Island (Island of God).
The name Widgawa ("Widge-ah-waw" or "Wee-Gaw-Wah!") is Ojibwe for Friendly Meeting Place.
We got the name, we got the lodge, we got the lakes, we got the permits, the canoes and the quaintest historic rustic cottages in any mountains, anywhere; all ready for you when you arrive weary from the world.
Rest at Widgawa, adventure the spectacular wilderness paradise of lake and forest, otter and eagle; see the unforgettable wild back country beauty of Killarney Park and the La Cloche Mountains.
Guests may stay for up to one month at a cottage for creative projects: photographic, film-making, painting, writing, spiritual development, wildlife or geological study, and so on. Please ask the Yogi Bear's.
